Old Faces

Lately we have been having the regulars each night, Oneeye, the badger (now so frequent hes called flash due to the white line above his right eye), Patch (the hedgehog) and Barney (the barn cat), but we have also had some old individuals return. Firstly there was a mange infested fox who we gave the name  Mange for some reason. Well he has returned, and is looking well. Its definitely him as he has the distinct tail. Its good he is alive.

Second old face we saw returning and has been for the last few nights is the big fox we have named Rommel. He only made rare appearances so we didn't name him but now he is frequent he has been named.

Oneeye also showed a bit of aggressive behaviour when Barney tried to eat her food. She charged in after Barney and made a sudden stop at the food. Maybe she is over protective as she may have cubs nearby.

Owl Project News Film

Here is a video from the Portuguese's news about the project I'm going on over the summer. Its in Portuguese but you get the idea about whats happening and a guy speaks english in it halfway. Only problem is there is sometimes a football advert at the start so ignore that.

Odd Shrimp?

In the pond with the tadpoles I saw some weird shrimp like creatures swimming around. I decided to put some in a container and put them under the microscope. Im not sure what they are but they are odd. If anyone knows what they are please let me know. I think that they may be water flea but am not sure and images on the net vary. Check out the video of them and hope someone can help me.

Night Sky Timelapse (first attempt)

As the last post stated I wanted to do a timelapse of the night sky when a clear night arrived. Well the clouds gave way just after I wrote the last post so as soon as it was dark I set to work. 30 second exposures continuously for two hours and this is the result.

video

I know its a little short but i'm tired and have a lecture tomorrow so had to call it a night. Didn't want to leave the camera out just incase it rains. When its next clear and I don't have a lecture the next day I will do a longer one. Let me know what you think and suggestions for the foreground setting.

A larger higher quality film is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzrHt-Bb8wg

Timelapse

Been trying out timelapse on a weeks growth on some cress. You can see the first attempt below. The only problem is that the battery died half-way so there is a jump but I replaced the battery. Just as the cress really grows the battery died again and I didn't realise. Anyway its a good(ish) first attempt.
The images are 5 minutes apart for a week and each shot is a frame here.

Next up I am going to try a timelapse of the night sky. Just got to wait for a clear night now.

One-eyes Sibling? And an Oddity.

The cameras batteries are dying and I need to get some new ones so to try and get a few shots I switched to photo mode for the night. Got only a few before the batteries died but they were surprising. This fox here looks a lot like one eye in size shape and tail but with one noticable difference. Seen it? Yep it has two eyes! Maybe its a twin cub from the litter One-eye came from?

One-eyes sibling?

The other more surprising shot is this next species. It is not native to the U.K so maybe it has escaped from the private collection in Launceston? anyway take a look, its a racoon! Hope it returns when the camera is back in video mode. Keep an eye out for updates.
Racoon but from where?

Anyone knows of anyone missing a racoon let me know.
